At the same time, there is a pullback to the non-digital fundamentals like freestyling (improv rapping) and beatboxing (percussion with your mouth,) which are moving into the mainstream in the form of publicized battles and even a beatbox convention. These are seen as the authentic core, the old-school styles and influences that defined what was what. Some would argue that brands seeking credibility in these subcultures would be wiser to ally themselves with these deep-rooted traditions rather than with the flavor of the moment hip hop artist.
