The living room on its way out…

April 1, 2003

The National Association of Home Builders announced its research findings that, if current trends continue, the living room may disappear by the end of this decade. New homes are not being built any larger but each year, kitchens, media/entertainment rooms, home offices and exercise rooms are getting more important to new home builders and are being allotted more square footage. If certain sections grow and the overall home size stays the same, something has to give. The living room is a vestige from a previous state of home evolution, a time when families sat around the radio and entertained guests more formally.
