Get ready for 3-D computer screens and 3-D television. No special glasses, no limited viewing positions. New technologies developed by Sharp electronics have finally solved the 3-D puzzle. The trick is to use 4 images taken by 4 cameras, distributed in an array of tiny four pixel rows (read the article for more detail.) In Japan, Sanyo and Sharp are rushing to bring screens to market that have this optional 3-D display mode.

As with any new format, there is currently very limited 3-D content that can be viewed on such screens. But because of the scalability of digital cameras (and digital camcorders) and with storage getting smaller and cheaper, watch for 3-D consumer digital cameras and camcorders in the next few years.
