Scorsese goes to work on airbus
June 7, 2005
Rumors are circulating that Martin Scorsese will direct a new documentary about Airbus. For the Oscar winning director of the Aviator, there is certainly a lot to tell: the fight with Boeing, the unique story of pan-European co-operation and the manufacture of the world’s largest plane.
There is no specific information on the angle of the film, just the rumor.
For Airbus, it could be a great way to get their story out to the global traveler before the huge A380 is launched. However, there is no guarantee that the film will have a positive take. Most of the recent documentaries; Mondovino, The Corporation, Enron-The Smartest Guys in the Room and Supersize Me have slammed corporations.
However, if Airbus wanted to guarantee a positive story, perhaps they should have tried commercial television. Lots of nice exposure for big brands, just look at The Apprentice, Hilfiger’s new show and A&E’s “Airline” for Southwest.
