Electric sheep, rabbit holes and nanotech

May 6, 2005

Influx was fortunate enough to spend the day at 050505 learning about some of the latest developments in new media thinking.

We heard a number of fantastic presentations including:

Eric Paulos of Intel talking about a vision for new city-based technologies and the world’s most expensive trash can.

Jane McGonigal on the power of rabbit holes in play.

Danah Boyd
of Google discussing the idea of how users subvert social spaces to support their own social nuances.

Irene Chien on how Dance Dance Revolution has transformed the video game experience.

Scott Draves explaining how an open source community of 10,000 creates the cutting edge screensaver Electric Sheep.

Victoria Vesa who showed us the connection between nanotechnology and Buddhism amongst other things.

Overall, with dozens of great 10 minute-presentations, it was the mental equivalent of a visit to the Uffizi or Louvre. We came back full of ideas, some of which we will be sharing in forthcoming blogs.
