Prada opens a store in the middle of nowhere

April 21, 2006

Artists are often looking to play with brands, as a commentary on the consumer society.Fashion-house Prada has been a popular target with artists. One example is Prada burgers, created by the artist Tom Sachs.

Last year, artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset opened a Prada Store. Prada Marfa, located on the outskirts of Valentine, Texas near Marfa on desolate farmland seemingly in the middle of nowhere.

It looks like a luxury boutique where high-heel Prada shoes and bags can be seen through the windows. The catch, you cannot open the door, it’s sealed, destined never to be a place of commerce.
