The rise of a phenomenon

January 31, 2006

Arctic Monkeys are the British pop phenomenon that this week found their way into the record books after shifting over 360,000 units of their debut album, making it the best selling British debut album of all time. This is the band that Influx first wrote about in October last year when scalpers where demanding $160 for tickets to their concerts before they had even released a single record. The band’s success has been put down to the internet, and especially its presence on My Space where they currently have over 27,000 friends and a page that has received over 205,000 views.

The rapid rise of the Monkeys can be seen by the level of buzz recorded by both Blogpulse. More great data here.
