Barry manilow: crime deterrent
July 10, 2006
Teens are often the ones who first discover the power of music as a weapon playing loud music in their bedrooms to deliberately annoy their parents.
So how could the tables be turned?
How could music by used as a weapon against teens?
Police and the local council in Sydney, Australia have resorted to an unusual method to deter youth crime, playing the songs of Barry Manilow. Manilow’s tracks “Copacabana” and “Mandy” were used to disperse crowds of young hooligans who were gathered in a car park.
Councils in Britain are also looking into the idea and the association even created their own play list that went way beyond Manilow to include; Billy Joel, Neil Sedaka, The Carpenters and Gene Pitney.
According to Word Spy, this innovative new crime fighting technique now has its own phrase “The Manilow Method”
