Google earth and brand discovery

June 26, 2006

Google Earth puts the world at one’s fingertips and brands are starting to understand how powerful this can be.

Recently, Surfing Magazine launched an interesting competition
to get its readers to scour the earth using GE to identify new global surf locations.

Readers are being asked to send snapshot JPEGS of locations to the magazine, with the winning entry gets a trip to the location with a journalist and a photographer.

What could brands ask their users to discover on Google Earth?

Hotels- the site for their next beach resort location
Music magazines- the site for the next impromptu rock concert
Reality TV shows- the site for the next survival game
Running shoes- the location of various idyllic running routes
Any brand- treasure hunts
