Media owners- get all your content out there

December 6, 2006

Saturday Night Live announced it is considering screening
rehearsals on the Internet. Obviously, the impetus for this comes from having two shows in 30 Rock and Studio 60, that are both based on the development process of “SNL” type shows.

However, this idea highlights a huge opportunity that media owners have with their unused content. There must be so much content that doesn’t get used that could be distributed and find a home.

Even the old archives must be packed full of gems that have never even been seen before. Now is the time to let them go to get them out to the eyeballs on the internet.

The same is true for magazines and newspapers. Articles that were never used or radically altered, edited and shortened, could all now have a home.

This additional content will give consumers the chance to build a deeper relationship with shows, networks, media brands and offer additional ad opportunities, it should be used, because as we are all aware, there is no shortage of bandwidth.
