Way back in January 2005, Ford unveiled a concept car that we mistakenly overlooked.

Named the SYNus, its a truly radical idea, especially given that it's based on the chassis of a fairly mundane European sub-compact.

SYNus represents the neat packaging of the extremes of contemporary life in a sub-compact and rather boxy automotive form.

There are a number of trends leveraged by Ford for this concept:

Nesting:The cars interior is a haven, dare we say cocoon, from the dangers of the outside world. Ford describes it as a private sanctuary.

Protection:Just to ensure you are protected at all times, the car features surveillance cameras on the outside, steel shutters and bulletproof glass. Not surprisingly, the designers took their cues from bank vaults and security vans.

Escapism: If the outside world is getting you down, you can escape into a video game, DVD entertainment heaven or surf the web on the 45 inch Sharp LCD screen.

Ford believe the SYNus is a concept for the year 2020. We disagree and feel that Ford should launch it now, if they can add more customizable elements.

Its a great concept that enhances and builds upon many themes that we see out there like; MTV's "Pimp My Ride" and Toyota's Scion.

SYNus is one idea that could help Ford enhance its profile with the young adult market.
