Henry Copeland (Blogads) has a great piece about the phrase "consumer generated media" which has become a "catch-all" phrase to describe everything from podcasts to blogs.

Copeland feels that the term is precisely wrong because:

1. They are participants, not consumers

2. It's not generated, it's lived, bloggers speak with a point of view and passion

3. It's also not media, instead it's vibrant, umediated and immediate

Copeland goes on to suggest a new label: immedia

He believes that companies that aren't turning consumers into participants are blind to the future of market and markets. Influx agrees.
