Wireless out of home advertising- minority report style

January 28, 2005

A Canadian company intends to bring wireless digital and television advertising to subway cars across North America. The system of 17-inch panels will have the ability to change message according to the subway train’s location. The advertising will take up half the space on the screen, the reminder will be used to display news and weather information.

The system will appear first in Toronto Transit.

This could be the perfect medium for retail chains, allowing them to produce location specific ads and promotions for subway riders. Messages can probably by tested and changed as easily as banners on the Internet.

It looks like we are moving one step closer to the advertising world portrayed in Spielberg’s movie, Minority Report.
