Crowdfunding- the viable alternative

In the past 36 months, Crowdfunding got us a new President, a feature film on climate change, a soccer club, funded various causes and created a new form of journalism.

It seems that this web empowerment movement is just starting out. With the rise and rise of social networks, it appears obvious that we will see new media and brands rise up from the crowd.

As people come up with new alternative ideas, it’s going to be a lot easier to pitch them to the crowd than going through the established channels.

It will be interesting to see if Facebook, Twitter and MySpace can use their brands directly to act as catalysts to accelerate this movement.
