Modular design is the future
February 27, 2009
Gadgets as disposable items is not a sustainable proposition. We can’t simply keep upgrading and throwing stuff away as new shiny objects come out and make our old stuff obsolete. What we really need is a modular approach to design; one that allows up-grades to be added as new technology comes on stream. A new way that would eliminate much of the waste inherent in today’s current system.
When I first heard about Modu, it seemed interesting, but really it’s just a number of different skins for the same device. Instead of turning modular into a sustainable concept, it actually adds more elements that could have easily been incorporated into a single device.
