Towards a new world of things

This initiative from Droog Design might be a little ahead of its time, but all the ingredients are there to make it happen; consumers want to make and participate in the design and manufacture of their own products, designers want to be able to reach a mass audience and manufacturers are sitting on excess capacity they want to use.
It suggests a time when we become partners with designers on the co-creation of products and an opportunity to make only what we need.
One big loser here is retailers who have yet again been dis-intermediated from the process.
Another opportunity here could be to focus on the re-use and re-making of things- instead of always thinking of new things- how about re-creation from existing objects?
