Amazon pushes further into streaming content

July 23, 2012

The announcement that Amazon is opening a Digital Media Center in London is further evidence that the company is keen to move deeper into the media content space.

The center is going to focus on the development of user focused applications to stream content.

This development will be drawing upon the interactive television software and design skills that exist in London to help Amazon stream video across a range of different devices including- consoles, laptops, smartphones, tablets, etc.

Importantly, this is recognition that the software and the user experience around streaming is going to be critical if the company is going to succeed in this space, because it’s up against the likes of Apple, Google, Netflix and Hulu.

As a signal of the importance of UI, last week we saw Hulu bring significant updates to its streaming player
